9-step guide to an Instagram account that sparks joy

When you’re promoting your product or service online, it’s easy to focus on the likes and the shares you get. But boy, does that get old quick. While looking at stats is an important part of your social media marketing, you also want to make sure your strategy is sustainable. Especially if you’re a jack-of-all-trades, juggling everything from product design to accounting and social media, you don’t want to burn yourself out searching for trending sounds on Reels. Go through these nine simple steps to post better and avoid wasting your time and energy:

Update Your Bio

Your bio is the first impression anyone gets when visiting your profile. It should accurately represent who you are or what your brand stands for. Keep it updated and avoid the fluff and random emojis or emojis if they don’t reflect your brand. The link(s) underneath should always be working, check for that as well.

Define Your Niche

It's easier to connect with your audience when you have a specific niche. Whether it's wellness, sustainable fashion or social media management, having a clear focus makes your content more likely to be seen by people who are actually interested in it. This can lead to deeper engagement and more meaningful interactions.

Also: customers!

Plan Content in Advance

Planning your content in advance will save you time and reduce burnout. With a content calendar, you can ensure that you post consistently and have a good mix of different types of posts. This also allows you to prepare for special dates or events and align your content with your overall strategy.

Focus on 1-3 Social Networks

It's better to be active and effective on a few social networks than to spread yourself thin across aaaall of them. Choose the platforms where your target audience is most active and that align with your skills and content type. For example, if you're good at making short, catchy videos and your audience is young, TikTok would be the obvious choice.

Interact with Your Audience

Interacting with your audience is crucial for building relationships and community. Respond to comments, ask for opinions, and show appreciation for your followers. Remember, social media is a two-way communication channel. The more you engage with your audience, the more they will engage with you.

Don't Rely on Vanity Metrics

While likes and followers can boost your ego, they don't necessarily translate to success or satisfaction. Instead, focus on metrics that reflect deeper engagement, like comments, shares, or the amount of time people spend viewing your content. These metrics can give you a better understanding of how your content is resonating with your audience.

Post Consistently

Consistency is key in social media, says everyone. It helps you stay top of mind for your audience and signals to social media algorithms that your content is worth showing in people's feeds. Try to establish a regular posting schedule that works for you and stick to it as closely as possible. That doesn’t mean you need to post every day, just regularly.

Check Insights Regularly

Most social media platforms provide insights or analytics that can help you understand your audience better and evaluate how your content is performing. Regularly checking these insights can inform your content strategy and help you make data-driven decisions.

Take Breaks

My favorite one. Social media can be overwhelming, and it's important to step back and take care of your mental health. Scheduled breaks can help you avoid burnout and keep your content fresh and genuine. This goes hand in hand with content planning, as you’ll be able to take more breaks when your content is scheduled in advance.
